OK, so a month or two became a year, but I finally went out and got the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM lens 
I will be taking a 3-week vacation to Barcelona, Spain in August and hope to be making lots of use of my new lens there! To accompany the lens, I got a B+W F-PRO circular polarisation filter (which, at 77mm, is a pricey piece of glass!) and a Hoya HMC UV filter (mostly for protection). I also picked up a remote shutter so I can try night shots some time.
